The Mysterious D.B.W.[edit]

At 2nd Avenue & 110 Street, on the southeast corner sidewalk, there is a manhole with the acronym DBW. It is very similar, almost identical, to the common DPW (Department of Public Works) manhole designs. It is the only DBW manhole I've seen, but I'm curious if anyone has seen any others. The style of the curved, serifed lettering is identical. It contains concentric rings of squares very similar to nearby DPW manholes, though with only six rings instead of DPW's seven. Steve Duncan pointed out the mystery to me, and I'm now taking it upon myself to solve it. Anyone have a clue?

My fantasy story is that, due to a mistranscribed phone call, a series of DBW covers was engraved and cast before the error was caught and corrected to DPW. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Unitof (talk • contribs) 18:59, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
